Story from 1up HERE.

From 1up's Todd Zuniga

"The forums at OperationSports.com have been buzzing with two interesting sports game tidbits, one culled from a job posting and the other from the website LinkedIn.

The job posting shows that Visual Concepts in Novato, California will now be developing the MLB 2K series. While this might immediately be exciting news for 360 and Wii baseball gamers who don't get to play the Sony-only MLB 08: The Show, there's a twist: Kush Games, the previous developers of both the MLB 2K and NHL 2K series, is now defunct. Ryan Jones of Access Communications confirmed that NHL 2K9 will also be developed by Visual Concepts, and -- we have to assume -- on shorter-than-usual schedules.

But more interesting to us, and dooming to the prospect of MLB 2K9 being a gem, is the LinkedIn page of Ben Brinkman, the man behind the last two games in the MLB 2K series (and the series' supposed savior). The page states that Brinkman is now working for Activision. We've since confirmed that Brinkman has left 2K, and we are looking for more info on what he'll be working on going forward.

The upside: Visual Concepts has been in charge of the NBA 2K and College Hoops 2K series, both of which have outscored the competition for years. We'll keep you updated as more details emerge."

Getting Ready for the EA Football Community Event

Tomorrow I board the big 'ol plane for Orlando and EA Tiburon studios.  I have some big plans for some of the coverage while I'm there. More on that later.

We just got word that "stuff we can't talk/write about just yet" will be at a bare minimum.  You probably won't even notice it, and from what little has been revealed that we "cant mention" is some stuff that I know our loyal readers probably wouldn't even inquire about.

I purchased a voice recorder for developer interviews, I'll have my digital camera with me, and I'll also be blogging in my free time.

...but, regarding that "free time"

One thing is for sure, our schedules are pretty jam-packed while there.  My initial coverage may post quite late in the day on Thursday and Friday, and I'm sure certain things such as pictures and me dictating the dev interviews from microcassette- will probably hit this weekend once I arrive back in Pittsburgh.

How jam-packed are those schedules for the Community Leader reps?  Well... give it a look:

Thursday

Time    Title
11:00 a.m.      NCAA
11:30 a.m.      NCAA
12:00 p.m.      NCAA
12:30 p.m.      NCAA
1:00 p.m.       NCAA
1:30 p.m.       Head Coach
2:00 p.m.       Head Coach
2:30 p.m.       Head Coach
3:00 p.m.       Head Coach
3:30 p.m.       Head Coach
4:00 p.m.       Head Coach
4:30 p.m.       Head Coach
5:00 p.m.       Head Coach
5:30 p.m.       Head Coach
6:00-10:00p.m.  NCAA/Head Coach

Friday

Time    Title
10:00 a.m.      Fantasy Presentation
11:00 a.m.      Madden
11:30 a.m.      Madden
12:00 p.m.      Madden
12:30 p.m.      Madden
1:00 p.m.       Madden
1:30 p.m.       Madden
2:00 p.m.       EASW Presentation
2:30 p.m.       Madden
3:00 p.m.       Madden
3:30 p.m.       Madden
4:00 p.m.       Madden
4:30 p.m.       Madden
5:00 p.m.       Madden
5:30 p.m.       Madden
6:00-midnight   NCAA/Head Coach/ Madden

This will be some SERIOUS hands-on time with the three products...with a tournament or two thrown in as well, and we'll have access to the devs, the studio- you name it.   This is unprecedented access beign allowed from EA, and its never been this "early" in the development cycle.  They want impressions, they want feedback, and they now have a few months left in the cycle to address anything we might find, or comments we might have that may improve the game.

Should be a great trip.  More news to come.

ConsoleSports.net UEFA Euro 2008 Review

Written by Paul Miles
Tuesday, 27 May 2008
UEFA 2008The European Championships taking place this summer in Austria/Switzerland are the setting for EA's latest soccer offering and I'm going to be honest and state that I wasn't expecting much from this one from the beginning.

As a verdict, aside from a couple of good new features and game modes, it looks and feels like a mix between Fifa 08 without the club teams and a  “rush to store in time for the June tournament cash cow”

Visually the game is an improvement in some areas and a step backward in others. Background views on the stadiams are awful, there are still no officials on the pitch during regular play, Ronaldo is not greasy enough (just kidding Man Utd/Portugal fans), the fact that you only see one sub when 3 are being made is still a problem and the fans are not as realistic either, especially at the intro to each game.

On the plus side......Spain's Carlos Puyol's hair looks spectacular in cut scenes and replays !!! In fact player likenesses in general are definitely on the up but I wish EA would put the same effort into the visual representations of their soccer titles as they do in the NBA/NHL series. Right now the Fifa/UEFA games do not look realistic enough.........
