From Gamespot:

Gridiron management sim will be available only as part of a $90 bundle with Electronic Arts' 20th anniversary collector's edition of Madden NFL 09.

Last month, Electronic Arts announced that it was working on NFL Head Coach 09 and that the game would star Indianapolis Colts skipper Tony Dungy on the cover. Now it seems the game might not have a cover for Dungy to grace.

EA today revealed that NFL Head Coach 09 will be available only as part of the Madden NFL 09 20th Anniversary Collector's Edition, a premium-priced bundle for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that will also include Madden NFL 09 and assorted bonus video content. The $89.99 package will go on sale in North America alongside the stand-alone versions of Madden NFL 09 on the just-announced release date of August 12.

Besides giving players two different takes on the popular American pastime, the latest installments of Madden NFL and NFL Head Coach will interact with one another. EA is letting players draw up plays in the stat-heavy management sim and export them to Madden for use in custom playbooks.

Both Madden NFL 09 and NFL Head Coach 09 are being developed by EA's Tiburon studio in Orlando, Florida."

EA Sports has released a couple of new screenshots of the new player models in NCAA 09. (click images for full size)

NCAA Football 09 Art Director Jason Renfroe shares some details on what his team has done to improve the in game visuals and some of what you'll see in future screens of NCAA Football 09.

On player models:

"We've done a lot of work this year to improve the player models. They have a much more dynamic body shape. A key example here is what we've done with our linemen. In years past all of the linemen were big, fat guys. This year we have added lineman body types that are much more athletic. This really helps make the players look more authentic. We also added extra padding to accentuate the players' form and see the pads and their movement."

On improved lighting:

"In the past we had one lighting model. This year we have two. One model is for environments and one is for players. This does a lot to help the way players look better when they are in the shadows.
We also added a subtle rim light around the players so they pop more on screen. To improve the look of the stadiums, we've saturated our crowds and really brought in a lot of color to better bring out the college atmosphere. Our skies and field art are new as well."

It was just announced on the Official NCAA 09 website that the Michigan State Spartan mascot, Sparty, was named the cover "athlete" on the Wii version of NCAA 09. You know, I kind of had a feeling that he was going to be voted to grace the cover of the game.  I don't know why, but I just had a feeling.

From IGN- Lets Play Doctor: Madden NFL

From IGN:

"March 5, 2008 - We may not be doctors, but, thanks to the power of the internet, we can pretend from time to time. In this continuing series of articles we'll focus on a particular topic in gaming that could stand to hear a little doctor's advice. Sometimes the subjects will obviously be on life support, while other times our focus will be on more pre-emptive medicine. Prevention is the best cure, after all.

Playing Madden football games over the years has become something akin to a long-term relationship. Since its original release in 1989 football fans have had plenty of time to learn all there is to know about Madden's particular rendering of gridiron ballet. In recent years, EA Tiburon has valiantly tried to keep the series fresh and surprising, while simultaneously managing the increased complexity of programming the game for HD consoles. It has been an overwhelming task and, after several consecutive years of feature creep, minor refinements, and some daft button-swapping, it's hard to think that Madden is actually getting better with each year's iteration.

To continue the relationship metaphor, we've entered the stage where it feels like there's nothing left to learn about our erstwhile partner. Madden, we've officially started taking you for granted and, honestly, we're growing apart. We've changed but you still feel like you're mired in the stale glory of your past. After a couple of years of mediocre reviews on 360 and PS3, Madden sales have finally begun to slump from the juggernaut figures that anchored EA's growth in the 90's. While most companies would still kill for the numbers that Madden puts up, this year's decline belays the creative rot that has been festering underneath the surface for a long while now..."
