"Were there only a leap from the current gen to Sony's next gen system, Madden NFL 07 for the PS3 would be a much richer feat. However, since this is the exact same title that's come out on the 360 with minor adjustments to some of the gameplay and the visuals, it's hard to be blown away with its debut on the PS3. If you're moving from the PS2 to the PS3, you'll most likely be impressed by the title, but if you happen to own the 360 version, there's not really anything included here that would make you want to purchase this title again."

"OK, let's get this out of the way: If you're expecting the PlayStation 3 version of Madden NFL 07 to completely reinvent the way you look at football games, or if you expect it to be something dramatically different from, say, the Xbox 360 version of the game, then you are in for a letdown. According to producers of the game, whom we spoke to during a recent EA PS3 developer meet-and-greet, the PS3 version of Madden 07 isn't necessarily aimed at folks who already own the 360 version of the game. Instead, the company hopes that the legions of PlayStation fans who have been patiently holding out for the third iteration of their favorite console are the ones that snap up the PS3 debut of EA's premiere sports franchise.

As we discovered when playing the game tonight, everything that is found in the Xbox 360 version of the game is present and accounted for in the PS3 game, including important 2006 additions, such as the lead blocker controls, as well as the revamped superstar feature and all of its position-specific camera angles and controls. So what's different, then? The biggest difference, as you might expect, can be found in the controls of the game. Madden NFL 07 is making use of the tilt functionality of the PS3's Sixaxis controller in a number of ways. The most obvious implementation, and the one we used the most during our time with the demo, was the fake snap. Before hiking the ball, you simply jerk the control backward or forward, and the screen will briefly pull back. If you time it right, you can catch the other team offsides."

From IGN: Madden 07 Wii Preview

"September 28, 2006 - It's always cool to hate the big guy and in the realm of videogame publishers, Electronic Arts is definitely the big guy on the block. Perhaps that's partly why Nintendo fans have in the past not jumped on the Madden NFL Football bandwagon as readily as Xbox and PlayStation 2 owners. Maybe it's just because the GameCube versions of EA's sports offerings sometimes lacked the features of the others. Or maybe it's just because Madden is not Mario or Link. But whatever the case, as die-hard Nintendo fans ourselves, we're asking you to give the franchise one more chance. EA has with Madden NFL 07 for Wii delivered a footballer that boasts all the features of its competitors (and then some) and puts Nintendo's new controller to use in a manner that feels neither gimmicky nor forced. Indeed, after a short learning curve, throwing bullet passes and making bit hits feel incredibly natural -- and because the control scheme is so radically different, it feels fresh, too.

Let's get the bad out of the way. Although EA still isn't speaking specifically on the subject, we have received no indication that Madden NFL 07 for Wii will include an online mode. Indeed, Nintendo itself recently stated that the first online Wii game would be Pokemon Battle out of Japan. Since Madden launches before Pokemon, chances of online are slim to none, in our estimate. So if your enjoyment of the latest Madden game hinges upon whether or not you can play against friends online, we have to be honest -- this is probably not the right version for you.

Still with us? Good. Because as it turns out, Madden NFL 07 for Wii actually does feature spectacularly deep and in many ways exclusive multiplayer modes designed specifically to make use of the Wii remote. But before we get to any of that, let's go over the basics, which are all included here. Franchise mode? Check. NFL Superstar mode? Check. Lead blocker control? Check. Highlight moves? Check. It's all in place. In fact, according to EA, because the Wi build features all these modes plus some new ones, it may be the most "feature rich" of the bunch."

"I pop in Madden 07 for the Xbox 360 and head straight into Superstar. I'm greeted by a screen that explains the mode. You pick your parents, sign an agent, attend practices and workouts. Sounds like I have some work cut out for me.

My first set of parents finds a father who is a civil war buff and delivers packages for a living, married to a dentist who likes crossword puzzles. His IQ is 82, hers 150. Damn, he definitely married up. Forget that pair. Next.

How about a brain surgeon who likes magic tricks married to a cook. Funny, the brain surgeon's IQ is lower than the dentist from the family before (not to sound anti-dentite, but do you want a brain surgeon dumber than your dentist?). These parents produce a QB, I want a WR, so I move on. It takes me about ten combinations of parents to find a couple who produce a wide receiver. Dad likes to play Madden and works as a pastry chef. Mom is an adventure seeker who makes pottery. Sorry, but when the winning trait is "Your father makes cakes" I have to pass.

It takes about five more sets of parents, but I finally find a winner. Seems that dad was a former receiver in the NFL whose skills include ballroom dancing. Sounds like papa Jerry to me! Mom is a boxer who loves urban exploration. Reminds me of home.

I name my guy Jrob Andsteal (my usual created character name) then pick the number 19 as my favorite jersey. I just want my guy to stand out (and sell more jerseys). "
