Story from 1up HERE.

From 1up's Todd Zuniga

"The forums at OperationSports.com have been buzzing with two interesting sports game tidbits, one culled from a job posting and the other from the website LinkedIn.

The job posting shows that Visual Concepts in Novato, California will now be developing the MLB 2K series. While this might immediately be exciting news for 360 and Wii baseball gamers who don't get to play the Sony-only MLB 08: The Show, there's a twist: Kush Games, the previous developers of both the MLB 2K and NHL 2K series, is now defunct. Ryan Jones of Access Communications confirmed that NHL 2K9 will also be developed by Visual Concepts, and -- we have to assume -- on shorter-than-usual schedules.

But more interesting to us, and dooming to the prospect of MLB 2K9 being a gem, is the LinkedIn page of Ben Brinkman, the man behind the last two games in the MLB 2K series (and the series' supposed savior). The page states that Brinkman is now working for Activision. We've since confirmed that Brinkman has left 2K, and we are looking for more info on what he'll be working on going forward.

The upside: Visual Concepts has been in charge of the NBA 2K and College Hoops 2K series, both of which have outscored the competition for years. We'll keep you updated as more details emerge."

MLB 2K8 Patch On The Way For 360 and PS3

ImageWe received this e-mail from 2K Sports earlier this evening regarding an upcoming patch for MLB 2K8 on XBOX 360 and PS3.  Plus, some info regarding updates for both the Wii and PS2 versions as well.

"Just wanted to keep you up to speed on a downloadable update 2K Sports is working on to address some of the issues reported with MLB 2K8.

We have been made aware of certain gameplay experience issues within Major League Baseball 2K8 that may effect the enjoyment for some players, and we are in the process of testing downloadable updates for both the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 versions.  Specifically, the Xbox 360 update will increase the frames per second to help improve the overall gameplay experience, while another update for both the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 will correct an issue in Franchise mode when playing as the San Diego Padres and attempting to move players to and from their minor league roster.  These updates are currently undergoing technical review, and will be available for download shortly, free of charge.

We are also aware of certain gameplay issues with the Wii and PlayStation2 versions of Major League Baseball 2K8.  While there is currently not an update available for these platforms, as they do not yet have the network capability to issue updates, our team is working tirelessly to find other alternative solutions to provide an improved gameplay experience.  We appreciate the feedback from all of our dedicated fans, and will continue to provide other updates and information when available."

MLB 2K8 Wii Review.

Monday, 17 March 2008

After the pre-release Q&A session with 2K Sports’ Ben Brinkman, one thing was abundantly clear from the info provided.  The Wii version of MLB 2K8 would not be as feature rich as its 360 and PS3 cousins.  No online play, no roster updates, no “cards”, no playable minor leagues in franchise mode.

After spending considerable time with the game, I can report that the title is entertaining, and by far the deepest representation of a pro baseball game ever made for the Wii system.  However, that isn’t saying all that much. MLB 2K8 stands out because its basically all that is available for Nintendo’s system other than last years’ MLB Power Pros (cartoony) and “The Biggs” (arcadey).

That’s not to say the title isn’t without its merits. Single player franchise gamers should find plenty to like in terms of gameplay and the solid feel of the title.  The pitching controls (completely different from the 360 version) are rather fun and require a flick of the Wii remote that mimics the forward throw of the pitcher.  Batting requires you to swing the Wii remote at the proper time.  How fast you bring that remote around often determines the strength of the hit.  I’m also pleased to report that the fielding controls have been tightened up and are quite responsive.  The mechanics of the game are well done even if they are rather simplistic by comparison to the 360/PS3 version and its new pitching interface.
