Its beginning to look a lot like winter here in Pittsburgh, and I gotta tell you – I love it. I’m a cold-weather guy, and my idea of hell is heat, humidity, and Florida. This is football weather here in the northeast. This is my favorite time of year. My wife also gets "snow paranoid", and we stay in alot..which means...she watches mind-numbing girl movies on the Lifetime channel, and I play more video games. Anyway, just wanted to post and get some quick-hitter topics out there for discussion that have been on my mind lately. ***I can’t express how much fun I’ve been having in our Consolesports.net APF 2K8 draft league… and not just because I’m currently 7-2 and beat the tar out of the ever-mouthy CrimsonVoodoo. What a great playing online game. Someone please tell the other sports game developer out there that online seasons with stat tracking, playoffs, web interface, and flex schedules….are very nice and people want them in sports games. And you can take that to the bank. There’s no bigger “No-Brainer” in the sports game industry right now. However, I would really hope that if 2K makes a follow up to All Pro Football, that they also work to seriously flesh-out offline modes of play and features. ***EA is to be commended for their huge improvements to their NBA Live franchise. Its now fun to play. I’m also looking forward to March Madness 08 coming out next week. Craig and I have been told by an inside source that there’s even more to like that got put into March Madness simply because they had several months longer to make it. Great…so now I’ll have two games where I start my virtual Bobby Knight career. ***Speaking of college hoops, I do enjoy 2K Sports’ College Hoops 2K8, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t admit… …just how much I stink at the game. My shooting percentage is abysmal! *** I am really glad to see what all was fixed by the Madden 08 360 patch. Franchise folks finally can dive-in without the year two “crash”. However, the three and a half months it took to correct such a serious issue did little to help EA’s “release something and worry about fixing it next year” perception that many have. Last year it took a month and a half to correct the “no-fatigue” issue with a patch. This year it took almost 4 months to fix a broken franchise mode. I think EA would be wise to invest in a “residual crew” of technicians/devs to work on each title after release so it at least works as advertised. And that includes the Wii version too, which has some disgraceful problems that should have never gotten past playtesting either. *** Regarding the big Activision + Vivendi = Blizzard Activision merger… might we have a “white knight” who would like to compete against EA in the sports game market? Rumor has it that there’s a well-known sports developer out there who’s current publisher does little to market its games and is in financial trouble due to some in-game content scandals that caused some seriously angry stockholders. Perhaps that sports game developer and Blizzard Activision might like to talk to have lunch together and shoot the breeze sometime soon? *** Remember the past two Christmases...with the "slow to get AAA titles" dynamic for the XBOX 360? It looks like those days are dead and gone... thankfully. *** Lastly, the Jeff Gerstmann firing at Gamespot- allegedly for angering publisher Eidos for a bad “6” review score of Kane & Lynch… it seems to be getting more press than Gamespot would like. Check out this from news source TheStreet.com Until next time… Scott Hemphill “Quietcool72” Co-Founder Consolesports.net

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – November 8, 2007 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) threw the switch today on a free downloaded feature called Online Team Play that will enable 10 people on 10 different consoles anywhere in the world to connect online to play a single match of FIFA Soccer 08 or NBA LIVE 08. The new feature is automatically available for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system and the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system* when connected online.
Be A Pro: Online Team Play in FIFA Soccer 08 enables up to five friends on five different consoles to select and take control of their own individual players on the same team, supported by AI teammates, to play against up to five rivals playing on five different consoles of another team. You can choose to play as a single, fixed player the entire game, with free roaming players, or teams can have a combination of both. Anyway you choose to play, Be A Pro: Online Team Play challenges you to master the same disciplines as a real soccer player—from positioning and tackling to reading the field and passing.
In NBA LIVE 08, all 10 players on the floor can now be controlled by individual users on 10 different consoles, removing the use of artificial intelligence altogether. Player movement, decision making and game outcome can now be completely dependant on how you play as an online team, bringing you closer to a real life game of basketball than ever before. This new game mode enables any number of players from one to five on different consoles to connect and play online against another team of up to five players on five different consoles. The CPU will take control of any players not controlled by users.

Our contributor and forum regular, Rudyjuly2 keyed me in on this news post from two weeks ago from GameInformer, found HERE "This summer during Tecmo’s Nite Out, the company announced it would be bringing back its famed football franchise, Tecmo Bowl. However, while announced, the company left the rest of the details out, including what type of game Tecmo Bowl would be and which platform it would appear on. The only thing we knew was that it would appear on a platform that we wouldn’t expect, which led us to believe Wii. Today, we sat down with Keisuke Kikuchi, Tecmo’s head of the new group Team Tachyon, who gave us a few tidbits about the company’s return to the gridiron. Considering the fact that EA has the NFL license locked up for this generation, Tecmo won’t be using real NFL teams or real NFL players. However, while the company won’t exactly be promoting this feature, gamers will have the ability to plug in any names for the players and teams that they wish. Players will be based somewhat on their real counterparts, possibly, with their skill sets and their parameters. Tecmo realizes that they don’t have the NFL license, yet, if gamers want to Jett Clarve to something else, they’ll have opportunity to do so. “Since the NFL season started, my typical day, I go home past 1 o’clock in the morning, I watch entire games, stay up 2-3 hours and watch an entire game. Go to sleep. Go to work. Repeat, and do the same thing again,” said Kikuchi, who admitted he was a 49ers fan. Considering gamers can plug in whatever they want, this opens up any type of team, from college football, to whatever. Jersey and helmets will also be able to be customized as well, but from a limited selection of colors, shapes and emblems. Currently Kikuchi-san is working with Tecmo’s U.S. producer Ryan Gildo to maximize the customization features. Tecmo Bowl is straying from the sim-type game, and it will be an arcade-style game—and the fruits of the company’s labor will be shown in 2008. The game is currently being co-produced in Japan and North America. While Tecmo is quiet on which platform it will be released on, it could appear on multiple platforms. However, most likely there won’t be a simultaneous multiplatform release."

Yesterday some of the community sites were able to take part in a conference call with EA Sports President of Marketing, Peter Moore. We were able to ask him questions regarding the future of EA Sports and what some of their goals are regarding EA Sports relationship with the community itself. It is a very exciting time for the community as we have never had this much access to EA before. Not only were we able to participate, but we are also able to record it! Feel free to listen to the conference call in it's entirety and tell us your thoughts Editors note: Click READ MORE link to listen to audio
