ConsoleSports.net will be attending the EA Sports NHL 09 Community Event this week at EA's Canada studio in Vancouver, BC along with other sites from the hockey video game community. This is a very exciting time for the hockey community in general as it is the earliest the community will be able to get a first glimpse at a game in development ever...I think. So, keep checking back to ConsoleSports.net throughout the week for updates. I will be posting whatever I can, but keep in mind that due to the stage of development, we will be under some very strict embargo's. Which means our lips will be sealed. Also don't forget to keep on checking back to the ConsoleSports.net forums where I will try to post in there as much as possible during the trip as well. -Craig Gonzalez (co-founder) | |

The time has finally come where we can actually talk about NHL 08 in full. Previously, we weren’t really able to talk about the online modes, Dynasty Mode, and the Creation Zone. I know the info has been coming out of the media sites about some online features and the creation zone, but we were actually able to get our hands on the game and experience some of these things first hand. Online Leagues I’m going to cut right to it. As it’s been released already, there are going to be actual online leagues in NHL 08 this season. That’s right; EA listened and are giving us what we’ve wanted them to give us for a few years now. Here’s the thing, though, from what I understand there might not be a web interface for it and the league pages might only be accessible via XBOX Live in NHL 08. That was mentioned to me at the Easton NHL 08 Community Event shortly after they announced the online leagues, but there still seemed to be a little uncertainty about that. I’m playing it safe and pretty much planning on their not being a web component to the league and hope we get pleasantly surprised. We aren’t going to be able to do full online franchises with trades and what not this year, but the mere fact that we are able to compete in a leagues and have it keep records and stats is a huge plus coming from the EA camp.
