College Hoops 2K7. Does it exist? |

An interesting thing happened to me the other night. I walked into my local Gamestop to pick up NBA 2K7, which is sweet by the way, and I was asked if I wanted to put a deposit on any of their upcoming released. Well, I am more of a fan of 2K’s College Hoops series as I like the versatility of it, so I told them that I wanted to put a few bucks on that game. There was a problem, though. They couldn’t seem to find the release date in their system, but they did see the release date of EA’s March Madness, but I happily declined to put money on that game as I think it is garbage. Confused by what I was just told at Gamestop, I went to 2K’s site when I got home to check to see if they had any release date up on their site on College Hoops, but unsurprisingly, they did not. Heck, they didn’t even have any updated screen shots or anything up there.
Which leads me to my point….
2K constantly dumps on their College Hoops series!
I really think 2K is really missing the boat when it comes to the promotion of their games, especially College Hoops. With March Madness being such a waste of disk space over the last couple of seasons, 2K could easily be kings of the entire basketball genre, and they could OWN the college basketball market hands down. But instead they keep on treating College Hoops like it’s a pain in the ass to make. Every year it comes out with little to no promotions whatsoever. If you go to 2K’s forums, they don’t say a word about the game in there, I’m actually surprised they made a forum for it. You go to the official College Hoops website and they have a whole 5 screen shots, with 3 of them from April and the other two from August 4th, and they have a whole 2 vides up there, one with JJ Redick. Their latest news update was from the end of August, as well.
WTF?!
Now, a point could be made that EA doesn’t promote their March Madness game as their website is not up. That’s a good point, but MM is garbage and EA shouldn’t be promoting that game until it resembles basketball on at least the XBOX, not PS1. Also, EA’s website totally sucks as a whole, but that’a a story for another day.
My point is this, it seems like 2K plays their promotions game to their opponents level rather than being proactive about it and actually beating them to the punch. Yes, I’ve seen NBA 2K7 commercials, but not nearly as much as the NBA Live commercials. However, they could have a stronghold on the college basketball market by creating hype for the game NOW! Why wait until you see your rivals commercials on TV before you decide to do anything about it? NHL 2K7 and NBA 2K7 have already been released and are getting positive reviews, why not take the effort now and totally pimp out College Hoops? Throw us a damn bone once in awhile and get us excited for the games! Is that too much to ask by us fans?

Oh, by the way, I do see that there’s a release date for 11/20/07 on EB’s website for the game, but they aren’t saying a damn word on whether that’s accurate or not on their website forums.
