I’d like to take this time to welcome everyone to 2KFootball.net, part of the Consolesports.net network. This website has been in the planning stages for some time- even before the official announcement from 2K regarding All Pro Football 2K8. Myself and Bangpow figured we’d start this idea on the side, as a “just in case” thing in the event the game was ever confirmed. I personally figured the preponderance of the evidence- particularly with the well-documented posts of Jon Robinson over at IGN, that this game was coming. Few people recall that 2K’s Anthony Chau was an IGN employee before leaving for 2K, so it always seems that JRob over at IGN gets scoops on most things from 2K before Gamespot & 1up/EGM…or anybody else. I’m sure this is no coincidence since it’s often been suggested that Chau and Robinson are long-time friends. Regarding this site, we figured if we were wrong about the game actually being made- worst case- we’d devote this site to a resource site where people such as Flying Finn, etc. could post their programs, edits, and other files devoted to keeping NFL 2K5 somewhat current in the roster/schedule department. However, with the January 07 announcement from 2K that confirmed APF2K8 is coming, we now can widen the scope and intent of the site. Here’s what our intent is- We’d like 2Kfootball.net to be a web resource for 2K football- for reviews, strategy, playbook discussions, roster files, fan forums, editing discussion, online matchup/online franchise matchmaking, game scheduling- you name it. We’ve previously shunned the idea of a “fansite” devoted to one particular game from one particular developer. To be perfectly honest, I’m a fan of video football in general, and both Bangpow and myself plan on buying every football game that comes out in a given year- from anyone. But there’s a severe lack of fan-focused sites solely dedicated to 2K football. So why is that important? Well, the very nature of this product is unique, risky, and unconventional. This will not be a title that will sell on label alone. I think we all have a feeling that moreso than any sports gaming product to come down the pipe in some time, this game will no doubt need to be THE most fan-driven sports product around.
